The project team held a community drop-in session on the 14th of November at John Higgins Centre to introduce the Narrogin Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. This was organized to engage with residents and stakeholders, the session provided a platform to share the project’s vision, benefits, and positive impact on the local community.
The Narrogin BESS project is set to revolutionize the region’s energy landscape by storing surplus renewable energy generated by solar & wind farms and other energy generators during off-peak periods and releasing it during high-demand times, thus supporting the grid stability and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
During the session, attendees learned how the project will boost local economic activity. Construction and ongoing operation of the facility are expected to create numerous job opportunities, ranging from engineering and technical roles to administrative and support positions. Local businesses stand to benefit from increased demand for goods and services, further strengthening the regional economy.
In addition to meeting the locals at John Higgins Centre, the South Energy team drove to the site on the day of the drop-in session and managed to visit the neighbours who missed the event at their homes. The team also left FAQ sheets and project information letters in the mailbox for those who were not at their homes during the visit.
Additionally, the project promises long-term environmental benefits, contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and fostering a cleaner, greener future for Western Australia. Community members expressed excitement about the project’s potential to attract further investments in renewable energy and technology, paving the way for the Narrogin region to become a hub of innovation and sustainability.
The interactive format of the session allowed residents to voice their questions and concerns, fostering a spirit of collaboration. Project representatives emphasized their commitment to maintaining open communication with the community throughout the development process.
The Narrogin BESS project exemplifies how renewable energy initiatives can drive economic growth, create jobs, and contribute to a more sustainable future. With community support, this project is poised to deliver transformative benefits for generations to come.
South Energy team sincerely appreciate the support and help from the Shire of Narrogin Council and all the locals for their presence at the event. Thank you all for attending the Narrogin BESS Drop-in Session and for sharing your valuable insights and feedback.
