A cleaner future for Western Australia

South Energy is excited to present the Narrogin Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project, a utility-scale BESS that will help Western Australia and the nation progress towards a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Benefits for the Community

The local community can expect to see economic growth driven by new jobs, increased demand for local goods and services, and development in general business support services during the construction period.

The project will play an important role in driving down electricity costs for homeowners and consumers by optimising energy distribution and reducing reliance on expensive fossil fuel peaker plants. In addition, our planned community investment program will further support the well-being of the local citizens of the Narrogin Shire throughout the project’s lifetime.

NARROGIN BESS PROJECT

Narrogin BESS Project is a 200 MW 4-hour Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that enhances grid stability by providing a bi-directional energy function, helping to smooth out fluctuations and allowing an increased supply of cost-effective clean renewable energy. The Narrogin BESS project is expected to charge and discharge stored energy enough the equivalent of approximately 70,000 households for a 4-hour discharge cycle.

Located at the corner of Narrogin Valley Road and Mellons Road, the proposed site is next to the existing Western Power Narrogin South substation. It has a predominantly even surface and is generally cleared, making it ideal for BESS project installation.

In addition to improving network stability, the Narrogin BESS Project will allow more solar and wind projects to be connected, joining the nationwide effort to mitigate the risks of climate change by reducing greenhouse gases and carbon emissions. The regional economy is expected to prosper from the development, as business opportunities and tourism flourish throughout the various stages of the project.

Our Vision

The global challenge set by climate change demands to be met with definitive and effective action. With our passion and innovation, we are reinforcing the commitment towards a more sustainable Australia in response to climate change.

We believe in generating and storing clean and renewable energy for the local community that helps to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment. The availability of stand-alone BESS projects enables us to store energy generated during peak production times and release it during periods of high demand for the lifetime of the project.

At South Energy, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future with our renewable energy projects – such as the proposed Narrogin BESS Project, to help secure a bright future for generations to come.
